Stamford
Tires & Wheels, Inc. has relocated its corporate headquarters
from Medley, Florida to Charlotte. The company recently leased an
80,400 sq. ft. office and distribution facility at 929 Jay Street
and expects to hire 20 employees in its first two years of operation.
The
Chamber worked with Stamford Vice President and Chief Operating
Officer Jim Seidel during the relocation. A former director of dealer
sales for Continental Tire North America, Seidel considered several
cities before choosing Charlotte.
”The
Charlotte region is in a growth mode with many positive things happening
here,” says Seidel. He also cites Charlotte’s strategic
location, distribution infrastructure, pro-business climate and
high quality of life as key factors in the decision to locate here.
“With the new Charlotte distribution center,” says Seidel,
“we are now able to effectively service tire and wheel dealers
from Miami to New York and most cities east of the Mississippi with
one-day delivery.”
Singapore-based
parent company Stamford
Tyres Corporation Limited is Southeast Asia’s largest
independent tire and wheel distributor. Stamford manufactures light
alloy wheels and contracts with numerous tire manufacturers for
specialty lines. The company’s shares are traded on the Singapore
stock exchange.
The
new Charlotte operation comprises US headquarters and a second distribution
center that focuses on the marketing and delivery in the United
States of Stamford’s proprietary Sumo line of tires for passenger
cars, light and commercial trucks, farm equipment, and off-the-road
vehicles. In addition, the Charlotte center distributes the company’s
own alloy and SSW wheels. Stamford’s distribution center in
Florida will continue to focus on Latin American markets.
